Mick & David Easterby: Racing Syndicates and Racehorse Ownership

Life After Racing: Abwab

Life After Racing: Abwab

One of our favourite rehoming tales has to be Abwab.

Abwab was bought out of Sir Michael Stoute’s yard in 2018, having not raced before. He ran seven times (four times on the flat and three over hurdles) but he simply didn’t want to be a racehorse. If a horse doesn’t want to race we will never force it upon them, and instead will find them a new vocation.

Abwab was rehomed with Jodie Smith and has been a revelation in his new career. He has done dressage and jumping and a little bit of cross country. He has had a hacking holiday around the North Yorkshire Moors, which isn’t far from where he was trained.

Abwab has also cantered around Epsom racecourse, the track on which his grandad, the great Galileo, made his name.

In the year that Jodie has owned Abwab they have moved from the north to south and back again and now live near Howden in East Yorkshire.

Abwab is barefoot and doing great!

He is such a friendly boy and so many people compliment him.
