Gastornis made his debut at Doncaster in March 2002. He won for the first time on his third outing, taking a bumper at Hexham. Gastornis won twice over hurdles at Wetherby and also over fences at Musselburgh. He ran his last race when pulled up at Market Rasen in November 2007.
