River Don started life as a successful pointer, winning on debut at Market Rasen. He won a novice chase at Catterick in 1998 and a handicap chase at the same track in 2000. He was an unusual horse and only completed three of his last nine races, as he was often pulled up. A fall at Musselburgh in 2001 finished his career.
