Baymist joined us in 2003 as a yearling from Tattersalls Sales for 5,500 gns. She was bred by Bearstone Stud in Shropshire, a daughter of the Primo Dominie mare Milliscent. Milliscent had raced seven times and been comprehensively beaten on all starts but her pedigree was sound. Baymist was the product of a mating with the speedy Mind Games, Jack Berry's multiple Group race winner.
Put into training in preparation to run as a mid season two year old in the colours of Mrs Curtis, Baymist finished midfield in maiden races at Ripon. Dropped a grade she went back to Beverley in July 2004 claimer at Beverley over five furlongs ridden by Terry Lucas. The following month she was a winner in handicap company at Hamilton at odds of 25/1, ridden by Royston Ffrench.
Baymist ran as a three and four year old but was not able to win again and was retired in February 2006 after finishing down the field in a Banded Class 7 race.
Baymist won twice for the yard, and earned just over £7,000 in prizemoney, but her greatest success has been as a broodmare. In 2009 she was covered by Pastoral Pursuits and in 2010 gave birth to Hoofalong, who became a multiple winner, with the William Hill Scottish Sprint Cup on 2016 at Musselburgh amongst his memorable victories.
