One For The Ladies clocked up a landmark today by becoming the 100th winner under the joint training licence when taking the 'At The Races App Market Movers Classified Stakes' at Wolverhampton. The race conditions dictated that all horses carried the same weight of 9st 9lb, with a 5lb allowance for three-year-olds, and our horse was 'well in', rated 50 but running at level weights with lower rated horses who would be receiving weight in a handicap. One For The Ladies had returned to the track at Wetherby in April, finishing seventh after being absent for 562 days, and was scoring on her second race back. That year and a half off the track was well spent as One For The Ladies was on maternity leave and gave birth to a lovely colt foal. |

The staff really took to the foal, who they named 'Benny'. He's out in the field now, growing, and later this year he will come in for pre-training. After her foal was weaned One For The Ladies looked in great shape and we decided to give her a second career on the track, a move that has turned out well. It's unusual, but not unknown, for mares to return to racing after having a foal. Or three, as was the case with a mare we trained called Catherine's Well. Catherine's Well won seven races and was retired to the paddocks where she had three foals. Returning to the racecourse after her maternity break, she won a further seven races before going back to broodmare duties. She went on to have five more foals, of which four were winners. Amongst the foals were William's Well, who won nine races and like his dam won the Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon. She was also the dam of Elvington Boy (4 wins), Emperor's Well (7) and Uhuru Peak (4). |

As for One For The Ladies, we all hope that Benny turns out to be a winner like his mum! |
