Keep Warm was awarded the Donate To New Beginnings horses At nbhorses.org.uk Handicap in the Stewards Room today after finishing a nose behind 25/1 shot Valentine Catcher at Pontefract.
The Stewards considered the degree of interference suffered by Keep Warm, the relative finishing efforts of both horses, and the rapidly diminishing margin of a nose at the finishing line, and determined that with an uninterrupted run to the line, Keep Warm would have finished ahead of Valentine Catcher.
Valentine Catcher was placed second, giving Keep Warm his first win for two years. Joanna Mason was the successful jockey.
Keep Warm's win took the flat prizemoney earned past the £2 million mark since Mick and David took out the joint training licence.
Ring of Gold made it a cross card double by taking the QuinnBet Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap under the floodlights at Newcastle ridden by Billy Garritty. The eight-year-old followed up his course and distance win a fortnight ago, showing a return to form in his veteran years. He was recording his fifth career win, all of which have come on all weather tracks.
