Southern Cross made his debut in a Doncaster NHF race and unseated jockey Brian Harding. However he made amends next time when winning at Newcastle, although this would prove to be his only win. He was placed over hurdles at Hexham and Wetherby and sold out of the yard in 1998 to TM Stephenson in Ireland.
