My former head lad Jim Dent celebrates his 93rd birthday! Jim served for 18 years - "a bloody long time" as he puts it. Jim and I rode against each other in Point-to-Points, when we were both fearless teenagers. It was amateur racing but by heck the competition was there and we've got some tales to tell between us! He rode 49 winners before eventually being "crocked" in a fall in a hunter-chase at Stratford, and I think I rode around and about a similar number. Jim and I are the same age, being born in 1931. I'd like to think it's a good advert for country living. |
