Sheriff Hutton Steeplechases have been run on our land which lies to the north of the village in mid-January each year. The first meeting took place in 2008, raising £5,000 for the YAA and selling out the 1,800 print run of racecards. The races have taken place annually ever since, barring a one-year break as a consequence of COVID in 2021, but returned in 2022 and proved to be as popular as ever. What is Point-to-Point? Point-to-point racing takes place over fences and the horses are ridden by amateur riders. Some of the horses will appear in these races before they compete in National Hunt races, whilst others may run in Points after retiring from the NH circuit. Professional trainers are excluded from running horses (other than their own personal horses) in point-to-points in Great Britain. Horses running in point-to-points must be thoroughbreds, save in the case of Hunt Members races and certain other Club Members races. |

Christine Drury, Chair of the Sheriff Hutton Point-to-Point committee, said "Rural communities like ours are reliant on services like this and when you see the helicopter flying down and you know there is help coming, it's truly amazing." "I'd like to thank the Point-to-Point Club committee, and all our supporters and sponsors, for again making the fundraising possible." There's ample free car parking on grass, admission is £15 per person and entry for under-16s is free. Please note that entry and the bar are cash only. Mick and the team look forward to welcoming a good crowd to enjoy a great afternoon of racing. |

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance serves a region of around five million people. The service is an independent charity and needs to raise £19,000 every day to keep its two helicopters in operation. The southern part of the region is served from Nostell Priory near Wakefield whilst the northern section has a helicopter based at RAF Topcliffe, Thirsk. The YAA also operates two Rapid Response Vehicles.
"We've raised well over £200,000 so far and we’d like to get the total to £250,000 so please come and join us", said Mick Easterby. "It's a fantastic charity and a lifeline for so many people. We'd like to get as many people to come along as we possibly can." |
