Boris has become a real all-rounder and has also done a spot of cross country training this summer. "When he did cross country he was fired up at first. There was a lot of excited dancing on the spot but after a good gallop out he soon settled down and was jumping lovely. He really enjoyed himself!" said Holly. "He took it in his stride and he did me very proud! I was so pleased with him. He certainly is some horse!" "If you're thinking about giving one of these ex-racers a new life then go for it. We absolutely love ours. He has given so much joy to us". And if you do want to go for it then visit our rehoming pages where we list ex-racehorses looking to start their the track adventure. |

As a postscript, we were contacted by Joanne Bowness who tells us of another thoroughbred who has scaled Askham Fell. Joanne lives in the same village as Holly and Gill!
"Many moons ago, I was fortunate enough to become the owner of Jalmusique, Jennifer Pallister's chestnut gelding," says Jennifer. "An eight time winner trained by Peter Easterby, I jumped him up to foxhunter and did a bit of eventing and lots of galloping up Askham Fell! He was fantastic!!" |
