Today marked a heartfelt new chapter for Refuge as he arrived at his forever home near Catterick. After leaving New House Farm for the final time just before lunch, he made the journey across to join Hazel, who's welcomed him with open arms and a kind heart.

Refuge now settles into a well-earned retirement, surrounded by care, comfort, and companionship. We're so grateful to Hazel for giving him a loving home and to everyone who’s been part of his journey.

"He was looking out the window at Catterick racecourse when we passed by", said Hazel. "He must have though he was going to the races."

Refuge is no stranger to Catterick, having raced six times at the track, his best performance being when beaten a nose there in August 2021.

Retiring our horses is always a bittersweet moment—especially those who've given us so many great seasons on the track.

While there's a touch of sadness in saying goodbye, there's also real joy in seeing them head off to enjoy a well-deserved rest. Earlier this autumn another yard favourite, Contrast, was retired and left us to begin his new chapter in Norfolk.

Refuge has been a true star for the Laura Mason Syndicate and Julia Lukas, winning seven races and giving us all some unforgettable memories. We’re so grateful for everything he's given and wish him the very best in retirement.

We were overwhelmed by the response—over a hundred messages and more than 40 offers of a home for Refuge. Thank you to everyone who got in touch and please bear with us, we'll have more horses retiring and looking for loving homes before the year's end.

Thank you, Refuge, for the memories. Enjoy your new adventure!
