Refuge has been retired from racing after an impressive career that posted seven wins from 59 starts.

The son of Harbour Watch came to us as a foal in 2017 and has spent his whole career here at New House Farm. A playful and fun-loving horse he was loved by everyone.

Refuge made his debut at Thirsk in 2019 and became a stable favourite with his determined style and excellent attitude.

He was at his best at Hamilton Park where he recorded four wins, but also posted victories at Musselburgh, Haydock and Beverley.

Joanna Mason and Refuge

We took the decision to retire Refuge after his run at Musselburgh last week. He wasn't enjoying his racing any more and he's been a great servant and he was telling us it was time to find him something else to do.

Lewis Chalkley rode his first career winner on Refuge at Haydock Park. Refuge was ridden by 20 different jockeys in his career, with winning riders also including Billy Garritty (twice), Joanna Mason, Harrison Shaw, Connor Beasley and William Buick.

Co-owned by the Laura Mason Syndicate and Julia Lukas Refuge earned £47,898 in prizemoney and we will now look to finding him a wonderful home to which he can retire.

Refuge is the latest of our long-serving racehorses to retire this year. A few weeks ago Contrast raced for the last time and has since headed into retirement in Norfolk. We always do our very best to find good homes for the retirees here at Mick & David Easterby Racing.
