We head to Southwell on Tuesday where the
Boost Your Acca At BetMGM Classified Stakes
has divided and we have a runner in each division of the race. The classified race conditions mean that horses will race at level weights regardless of their handicap ratings, other horses carrying penalties for wins since their last assessment.
Laurens Dream
lines up for Division I of the seven furlong contest. She recorded wo wins as a juvenile in 2024 at Newcastle over six and seven furlongs but she's since stacked up a 17 race losing run. However she ran well enough last week at Newcastle when second of 12 to Eagles Whistle and the winner has followed up since. Our horse has a rating of 50, making her the highest rated horse and she runs on favourable terms compared to a handicap race where she'd concede weight all round. She again wears the cheekpieces that she carried for the first time in her last race. Call Glory, runner up at Lingfield last time, looks the horse to beat.
Sharp Call (right) working on our gallops with Ganthorpe.
Half an hour later
Sharp Call
tackles the second division which looks the stronger half of the race and the outside draw has done her little favour. Sharp Call's rating of 44 makes her the lowest rated horse in the race and she has to compete at level weights with horses who would otherwise be giving her weight if this was a handicap race.
Pink Socks looks the pick here, having won decisively at Newcastle on Saturday. The seven-year-old mare won by 5½ lengths and this time Oisin Murphy is booked. Pink Socks carries a four pound penalty for the win but this is likely to be considerably less than her rating will be raised on Tuesday which will inevitably put her above the maximum rating for these 0-50 classified races.
