Sondad returns to Epsom on Saturday with the straightforward objective of repeating his victory in the same race twelve months ago. The son of Washington DC gelding landed the JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap on Derby day in 2025, finishing strongly under Joanna Mason to win by three‑quarters of a length on soft ground.

Now a five‑year‑old, he comes back in comparable form after a series of solid efforts in competitive 6f handicaps this spring. His campaign has been kept simple and this Epsom target has been on the agenda for some time.

He runs from a slightly higher mark than last year’s winning rating of 87, but his overall profile suggests he remains effective at this level. His previous handling of Epsom's camber and undulations is viewed as a positive and we think that he can run a good race.

The race is typically tight and demands a clean, efficient performance, but Sondad's reliability and proven course form give him a clear chance as he attempts to secure back‑to‑back wins in the Derby‑day finale.
