Bangor‑on‑Dee is a small, characterful jumps course set in the countryside south‑east of Wrexham, bordered by a loop of the River Dee. Racing has taken place there since 1859, and the layout is still essentially the same as it was at the first steeplechase meeting. It’s left‑handed, sharp and almost triangular, with minor undulations and a long run‑in, and it's well known for being the only racecourse in Britain without a grandstand, which gives it an unusually open, ground‑level feel with wide views across the fields.

It stages National Hunt racing throughout the year, usually around fourteen to fifteen fixtures, and although it doesn't host top‑class graded races, it's popular with trainers who use it to educate young horses. The fences are considered fairly stiff, and because the track keeps horses turning for much of the circuit, races tend to be well‑run. The course is owned by Chester Race Company, shares its Clerk of the Course with Chester, and offers modern hospitality facilities despite the absence of a grandstand.
