Sheriff Hutton

Sheriff Hutton’s point‑to‑point course sits just north‑east of York on land provided by the Easterby family, who established it as a racing venue in 2007. It’s become one of the Yorkshire area’s busiest and most popular pointing fixtures, hosting two meetings each season – the Yorkshire Area Club meeting in mid‑January and the Middleton Hunt meeting on Easter Saturday. The place has a strong community feel, with volunteers running everything from the course preparation to the food marquee, and the meetings have raised substantial funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The track itself is left‑handed, flat and straightforward in shape, with just under two and a half circuits needed for a three‑mile race. The fences are portable, small and very soft, and the winning post sits in a short chute off the bend that feeds into the home straight. A three‑mile race features seven fences per circuit, giving eighteen jumps in total, including two open ditches; the 2m4f course uses the same layout but with sixteen jumps.

Access: turn right at the mini‑roundabout in Sheriff Hutton village and the course is about a hundred yards on the left, roughly ten miles from York and four miles west of the A64.
