Apple Wine made his debut at Doncaster in August 1979. He won two flat races and two hurdles races at Stockton and also recorded two wins at Doncaster. Apple Wine also won at Market Rasen and Catterick. Apple Wine left the yard to be trained by David Chapman in 1982. By the time he retired Apple Wine had raced a remarkable 169 times.
