Common Pond came from Peter Pittendrigh after he was refused a flat licence. His owner wanted to train him for the Lincoln but Pittendrigh was denied a flat licence because he didn't have a flat gallop of at least seven furlongs.
A winner in each of his three seasons, Common Pond was sold for £3,000 at the Sales in 1969.
