Don Spirit made his debut in the Junior 2yo Plate at Pontefract in August 1967. Don Spirit pulled a muscle as a two-year-old and was much better at three.
He won the 'Inveresk Stakes' at Edinburgh in 1968 at odds of 10/1 ridden by Eddie Hide and the 'Dunure 3yo Handicap' at Ayr later the same year. In 1969 he returned to Ayr and won over hurdles. We couldn't get him to win anywhere other than Scotland, and since his owner Charlie Spence lived in Aberdeen it all worked out well. Don Spirit was sold to J Kenneally to go jumping at the end of 1969. |
