Apalis arrived at the yard in 2017. She had previously won three times on the flat in France over middle distances. However, during a spell with Charlie Mann she showed that she really didn't enjoy jumping hurdles and she came to us here at Sheriff Hutton to resume flat racing. She won her first race for us at Newcastle in December at odds of 25/1, ridden by Harrison Shaw. She followed up at the same track again for Harrison Shaw in January to become the yard's first winner of 2018. The hat-trick was completed later in the month, Harrison Shaw the jockey again over the same course and distance.
Apalis retired to the paddocks as a broodmare having won six races.

Name: Apalis is named after a genus of small passerine birds, found in forest, woodlands and scrub across most parts of sub-Saharan Africa.
