Two Brothers ran out the winner of the 'Coral Committed To Safer Gambling Finale Handicap' at York this afternoon as the curtain came down on the 2024 season on the Knavesmire.

Returned at odds of 25/1 the six-year-old was ridden by Billy Garritty and passed the post half a length in front of Yorkshire Lady.

Two Brothers and Yorkshire Lady are horses who love getting their toes in and a heavy downpour after the fourth race did their chances no harm as they relished the testing ground. It was a fine performance by Two Brothers who recorded his fifth career victory after lugging top weight in the ten and a half furlong contest.

As a two- and three-year old the son of Sir Percy had been a difficult horse with whom to win. It took 18 races before he finally got his head in front, having been a maiden throughout his first two seasons.

Two Brothers also had a reputation as a bit of a rascal.

He'd sometimes drop his jockey on the gallops during morning training and in May 2022 unseated rider Jonny Peate when leaving the parade ring at York before running loose.

In September 2022 the fitting of a visor turned the horse's fortunes around and he's never looked back since.

Quite literally!

In 2023 he notched up wins at Beverley, Carlisle and York. The 2024 season started with a bang as he won at Thirsk and this afternoon he returned to the Knavesmire to record a fifth career victory.

A reformed character, Two Brothers is the pride and joy of brothers Oli and Gavin Thompson and represents On Top Racing. The outfit also have Frankyboy, an own brother to the yard's winner Sondad, waiting in the wings and he looks another exciting prospect.
