Yard favourite Refuge retired from racing last year after an impressive career that posted seven wins from 59 starts.
The son of Harbour Watch came to us as a foal in 2017 and has spent his whole career here at New House Farm. A playful and fun-loving horse he was loved by everyone.
Refuge was rehomed to a fabulous five-star home with Hazel in North Yorkshire, not far from Catterick racecourse where he had raced several times, and today his new owner sent us an update.
"Refuge (Rafa) is back in work after four months down time," says Hazel. "The weather has been rubbish but he's wintered well and loves being turned out. He was really good but definitely has a cheeky character. Love him."
"It's done him the world of good chilling out. I didn't send photos with him wearing his rug as he's constantly covered in mud."
It's lovely to see Refuge enjoying life and thriving after racing, having given the staff and owners so much pleasure over the years. We can certainly agree with Hazel, as we know he loves a good roll in the mud.
