Evans Wood was bred by the late Ken Hodgson. He was by Winter Derby winner Gentleman's Deal out of Boulevard Rouge, and a half brother to five times winner Ego Trip. Running in the colours of Mr Curran, he raced four times, being placed on his debut at Huntingdon.
Evans Wood was retired in 2011 and in early 2020 we were contacted by Kimberley Marshall, who owned Evans Wood in his career after racing.
Here Kimberley takes up the story.
"I was very lucky to come across Evans Wood (by Gentleman's Deal) late in 2013, all much by chance! He was with Gary Parsonage at the time. Gary had seen me ride and said he had a horse he didn't have time to settle and thought we would suit one another. Had he said quite how long he would take to settle I may have thought twice!!"
"But he was everything Gary said and more, he really was my horse of a life time, beautiful inside and out. He won hearts and prizes everywhere we went (as long as I could get him to the fence!) competing in BE, BD and ROR."
"Unfortunately he was just not himself last season we investigated and tried what we could for him but in the end I had to make the heartbreaking but right decision to put him to sleep early last December".
"Thank you to yourself and his racing owners for making the chance of such an amazing horse possible."
